Marin Concours d'Elegance
David Grega Sponsor Marin Sonoma Concours d’Elegance
San Rafael, Calif. (April 29, 2010)–Realtor David Grega of Decker Bullock Sotheby’s International Realty today announced his sponsorship of the 2nd annual Marin Sonoma Concours d’Elegance that benefits Hospice by the Bay.
Having set the precedent as a world class show and successful fundraiser for Hospice By the Bay the previous year, the Marin Sonoma Concours d’Elegance returns for its second year to the Marin Center Fairgrounds on May 16, 2010. Porsche is the featured marque for this year’s event. The Concours name represents the pinnacle celebration of fine automobiles as does the Sotheby’s International Realty® name does for luxury real estate. Connoisseurs of fine cars tend to be connoisseurs of life and the fine homes that go with that lifestyle, and no one knows Marin’s luxury real estate market like David.
PRE-SHOW DRIVE THROUGH MARIN MAY 15
David Grega will be driving in the pre-show drive. 150 classic and vintage cars will take to the open road in West Marin to celebrate the joy of the drive. The event will start in downtown Mill Valley at Piazza D’Angelo Ristorante on Miller Ave. at 8:00 a.m. Drivers will gather for pastries, coffee and instructions. The cars will take off at approximately 9:00 am and wind throughout West Marin stopping at Rockin’ H Ranch in Petaluma for lunch catered by Il Davide Restaurant. The Drive will end at Il Davide Restaurant in San Rafael for a wine and cheese reception. Both the start and end of the Drive will be a great opportunity for spectators to see these moving works of art. Only 300 people and 150 cars will have the opportunity to participate; 75 Pre-1978 vintage vehicles and 75 Porsche vehicles. This additional fundraiser also benefits Hospice by the Bay.
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE EVENT MAY 16
The Marin Sonoma Concours d’Elegance will both showcase the classic cars of the past and preview a likely classic car of the future. Organizers announced that the Lexus LFA will be on display – a new Lexus that claims to redefine the supercar for the 21st century. Lexus showed the LFA at the Detroit, Chicago and Dallas Auto Shows this year and it will be delivered it to the Concours after the New York International Auto Show in April. There is only one LFA currently in the US and this will be the last opportunity to view the Lexus supercar in the States this year. Mark Templin, Lexus division group vice president and general manager said in a recent press release, “The development of the LFA was unlike any other Lexus. Minute details were engineered to provide an engaging and serious supercar that delivers impressive performance on and off the race track. Only 500 will ever be built worldwide and each will be assembled to customer order, offering a once-in-a-lifetime chance to be part of a small, exclusive group of individuals.” Base MSRP is $375,000.
The Marin Sonoma Concours d’Elegance also announced that Janis Joplin’s Porsche will be on display at their May 16 benefit for Hospice By The Bay. Janis Joplin was the lead singer in the ’60s rock band Big Brother and the Holding Company. She is well known for her popular song “Mercedes Benz” found on her last album “Pearl” recorded before she died in 1970. While she herself did drive a Porsche, the song comically pleaded: “Oh Lord won’t you buy me a Mercedes Benz, my friends all drive Porsches, I must make amends.” The Porsche is on loan from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland OH. Porsche is the featured marque at this year’s show, making this rare opportunity to see the late rock icon’s car even more special.
